When I stopped playing football and started studying acting, it was survival. I had to find a place and create a platform to let all the TNT, all the energy I had played with—out. So I moved to New York City. I wanted to write. I wanted to tell my story. I wanted to perform in front of people, just like I did in football, although, I didn’t talk. I hit. I knew if I didn’t find another stage to express myself on, it was over. I would have ended up in a bad place.
I think that’s the mistake a lot of us make when we move from one path to another. We don’t bring all of that TNT to the next dream, even though it’s one of the most valuable things we’ve got. Anything I do, whether it’s writing or speaking or being a parent and husband, I bring the same aggression to—the same dynamite I have inside me—I bring it to all those relationships.
All that TNT in your body has to come out too. What are you going to do with it?
